What is ULEZ?

The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is a pollution-reduction scheme in London that charges vehicles which do not meet emissions standards. It runs alongside other local schemes such as the Congestion Charge and LEZ.

Operating times

ULEZ operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year, except Christmas Day (25 December).

Charges & compliance

If your vehicle does not meet the ULEZ emissions standard, you will be charged when you drive within the zone during operating hours. Charges, penalties and the exact standards can change — always check the latest Transport for London (TfL) guidance.

Penalties & appeals

If you fail to pay a ULEZ charge, you may receive a penalty notice. If you believe a penalty was issued in error, follow the issuing authority's appeals process promptly — acting quickly gives the best chance of a successful challenge.
