The Appeal Process at a Glance

The UK parking and traffic fine system can be daunting, but it follows a strict legal procedure. If you follow the steps correctly, you maximise your chances of success.

01

The Informal Challenge

Most PCNs allow an informal challenge within 14 or 28 days. If you do this within 14 days, the "discount" period is usually frozen while they consider it.

02

The Formal Representation

If your informal challenge is rejected, the registered keeper will receive a "Notice to Owner" (NtO). This is when you make a formal representation.

03

Independent Adjudication

If the council rejects your formal representation, you can take it to an independent tribunal (like London Tribunals or TPT). This is free and the council must pay to attend!
